1935 Mains water came to Overton
This appears to be the original pump house for the water works which is still in use today (2015). The sign over the door says, "Kingsclere & Whitchurch Rural District Council. Overton Waterworks". Having been brought to the surface, from the chalk aquifer, the water is treated before being fed into the mains system - see next picture. Before 1935 houses obtained their water from individual bore holes with hand pumps located in the streets around the village.
