This sketch from a conveyance in 1873 shows interesting details of earlier use of the plot that St Luke's Hall now stands on. Dwellings existed on the Winchester Street frontage in line with the houses which are there today. Behind the main building are shown a blacksmith's shop, a yard, piggery, and cart shed - with a garden behind.
