18_4SH_25_04 18th April, 1982 - Basingstoke's first Marathon. It was the biggest sporting event the Borough had ever seen and was won by 21year old Paul Wheeler of Overton Harriers. Paul's time for the 26 miles and 385 yards was 2 hours 25 minutes. It was only his third full marathon. 350 runners finished out of 470 starters. From Brian & Margaret Wheeler
