It commemorates the journey made by a ship's captain, from Falmouth to the Admiralty in London, to bring news of the victory over the French and Spanish fleets at Trafalgar but also of the death in action of Vice Admiral Lord Nelson. The messenger's journey took him through Overton which was on the main road from London to the west. By Tony Morris
