After the lifting of the siege in May 1900 B-P became a national hero. On his return to England, his early ideas for the foundation of a scouting movement for boys were tested at a camp on Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset in 1907. This was a great success and is generally seen as the beginning of Scouting. It was followed by the publication of B-P's instruction manual, "Scouting for Boys" in 1908. These early beginnings rapidly mushroomed into the world-wide organisation that we still have today.
