The process of making watermarks in paper is both a technical achievement and an art form developed to a very advanced level by Portals, paper-makers of Laverstoke and Overton. This fine example shows a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. It was produced to commemorate the centenary of his death on April 15, 1865.
